Logan North took fourth place at the MCEL Wrestling Tournament in WaKeeney last week.
Sarah Martin spent last week-end with her grandparents, Arlyn and Jan North. It was a revolving door as the other cousins all came in to see their favorite girl. Sarah helped Grandma sort old family photos.
Two personal account books from The Bank of McCracken, McCracken, Kansas, were given to the Jail/Museum. They belonged to the late Teresa Moran. One belonged to Howard and Moran
A donation was received for the Jail/Museum from Chuck and Shari Pollard of Monrovia, California.
Mike and Susan Keith were in McCracken on Sunday to visit Ben and Carolyn. Shannon will be in the KSU pep band at the Big 12 tournament this week.
The event honoring Father Emil Kapaun, Chaplain, who died at a prison camp in Korea, was held at Timken on Sunday. Father John V. Horze, from the Wichita diocese told of the progress being made in having Father Kapaun declared a saint. Also speaking was 20 year old, Chase Kear, who survived through prayers to Father Kapaun. Other miracles are being pursued. Our bishop, John Brungardt, presided over the mass with Father Matthew Kumi, Father Charles Mazouch and Father Ultan Murphy.
Katelyn Engel received 1 on her vocal solo at the Dodge City MSWAC Music Festival this past Wednesday.
Taylor Doornbos received a blue ribbon at the 4-H Regional Club Days in Dodge City on Saturday.
There will be a Fish Fry Friday night from 6 8 PM March 11, 2016 at the American Legion. McCracken Mustangs Relay for Life will be selling desserts. You can also purchase your luminaries for this years Rush County Relay.
Guests of Arky and Diana McNair this weekend were Curtis McNair, John Denver Evans, Sean Reynolds and Ray Lucera from Denver.
The 22nd Walnut Creek Extension Basketball tournament was held at the LaCrosse Auditorium this past weekend. Boys and girls from the third, fourth, and fifth grades from different schools in the county participated. Quintin Elias, a 3rd grader was supported by his family. Attending were 'Tyrel Elias, Tina Elias, Tanner Elias, Brady Slingler, Dave and Carolyn Davenport, Steve and Debbie Harris, and Jarod Schmidt and family.
Dont forget St. Pats Day parade in Rush Center, March 12. We were disappointed with the LaCrosse girls upset Friday night in Kinsely. Happens to the best!!!!
Thanks to all who sent me cards and birthday wishes by email. Maybe turning 82 isnt so bad after all. (Just kiddin) I spent my birthday early by attending the KU - Texas Tech basketball in Lawrence last week end. I went with son Jerry and we visited with Gary Musselman at KSHSAA in Topeka; with Jenna Higgins and her friends at Corbin Hall; spent Friday night with Cameron and Courtney in Lawrence and Saturday evening with Tanner Higgins in Manhattan. Tanner received his internship in Civil Engineering and will work in Junction City this summer with Hamm Construction Company.
Jerry Higgins will be officiating the State Tournament in Salina this coming weekend.
1975 History Notes: Lynette Legleiter was chosen as Red Rose Girl of the Month by McCracken Club for her Mustang spirit. Fueled by 26 and 20 point performance of the Casey boys, Don and Jim, the undefeated Mustangs raced to an 86-45 win over Pawnee Heights on Tuesday. McCracken girls lost by a score of 52-31 to Pawnee Heights. Scoring was Kim McCormick 8, Ellen Davis 9, Cheryl Foreman 1, Janet Unrein4,TerriRogers4,MarshaHealy3andHopeJohnston2. DARGoodCitizenAwardwasgivento Rosemary Rues at a luncheon at the home of Alta Mellick. Arlene Rues was a guest. Girl Scout Troop 204 toured the Rush County News Wednesday. Members are Annette Davis, Sandy Jacobs, Kelly McKinney, Helena Showalter, Trina Zinn, Kerri Bromlow, Janet Conner, Sandra Taylor, Cathy Rues, Brenda Barnes, Kayla Higgins, Connie Wittman and Rhonda Conrad. Leaders are Priscella Jacobs, Goldie Showalter and Barbara McKinney. The 8th grade basketball team won the Qua-Valley tournament at Ransom. In the finals they squeaked by Sacred Heart 39-38. Francis Zeller makes about 250 appearances a year as a square dance caller. He was named as Caller of the Month by the American Square Dance Magazine. MHS won the Class 1-A regional tournament at Ransom by topping Lewis 60-40, then lost to Fowler in the Sub-State tournament 60-50. Those receiving 1s at the grade music festival in LaCrosse were Craig Stull, Randy Conrad and the trombone trio; 11s Patty Swartz and Troy Zinn. Cub Scouts 489 visited The Rush County News March 5. Members of the troop are: Shawn McKinney, Richard Wittman, Mike Woods, GaryBarnes, Michael Stull, Doug Elias and Chad Herdman. Leaders are Signe Barnes and Janet Herdman. Voting for Hampton-Fairview Township will be at the Davis Café. Daryl Casey is a student at St. Marys of the Plains College in Dodge City.
Save Saturday, March 19 at 1:00 pm for our annual MCC golf meeting at the Legion building at the golf course. We may have to change the time if it conflicts with a KU tourney game, but otherwise plan on 1:00 pm. I will send out an agenda and a tentative schedule of tournament dates for 2016 in a few days. We are going to have an exciting year so plan on being a part of it. If you havent paid your 2016 dues, bring your checkbook to the meeting. Dues are same as last year (unless changed at the meeting!), Family $100, Single $50, out of area $25.
