McCracken Sports History
October 1920
The McCracken HS football team journeyed to LaCrosse last Friday and defeated the county seat team 12-6 in a clean, interesting game. Smarting under a 31-6 defeat a week previous, the boys went to LaCrosse determined to get, at the least, an even break. For a week they had practiced breaking up forward passes and developing a strong backfield and when the team trotted out on the field to warm up they little resembled the team that made such a poor showing the week before. Early in the game Robertson broke through the LaCrosse defense and ran 25 yards to a touchdown. LaCrosse then got away with one of their favorite passes and Kyle made a 30 yard run for a touchdown. From then on neither team could make substantial gains until the last few minutes of play when McCracken, by a series of hard line plunges, sent Miller over for the final touchdown when but 15 seconds of play remained. All our players deserve mention but more especially Glenn Miller, Leslie Hunt, Jim Lovitt, Harold Robertson, Edward Murray and Orland Edgington.

Congratulations to Larry and Shirley Weeks of Brownell on the birth of twin granddaughters, Carly and Avery Manning, daughters of Chad and Erin Manning, Norton.  They were born November 4, 2011.

We received a letter from our friend at Manning, Alberta, Canada.  They only received 2 to 4" of snow this winter and are wondering what the crop year will be like unless they get rain.  They still buy all their drinking water as the water system was closed down in the county.  They pay $5.00 for 1.8 liters. Their elevator closed down and three stores are closing.  They will have to drive 100 km for groceries and other supplies.  She loves to read, so they go to the used book store when the library discards books.  She gets two or three boxes for $5.00 to $10.00.
