Calvin Wilson, Jr. sent a short obituary for his dad, Calvin H Wilson, Sr.  He was born October 3 1931, McCracken, Kansas  - died November 17, 2011, Junction City Kansas  Life Long Carpenter   3 children - Calvin Jr age 55; Peggy Wilson Collins age 53; Darrell Wilson age 51.  He enjoyed square dancing  in a club in Kansas City.  Calvin was a member of the class of 1951.  He was buried at McCracken City Cemetery.
 
Dorothy Bemis has donated three items to the Jail/Museum - a Spanish American War metal helmet (belonging to Ambrose A. Wilson); Sadie Wilson Krause's wedding cake pedestal crystal dish and Sadie mother's (Mattie Ward Wilson) covered casserole dish with the tea leaf design.  Dorothy has moved to an assisted living facility in Colorado Springs.   Bill and Amy Stricker and Lily Johnson brought the items to the museum on Thursday.  They enjoyed lunch at Boondocks.  Lily Johnson grew up with Dorothy and they attended school together.  She moved away for 60 years and returned to Hays four years ago.  She lives at Garden Terrace.
 
The McCracken Public Library will be having a class on how to use e-readers (Kindles and Nooks) on Thursday February 23rd at 7:00 P.M.  All are welcome.
 
The February 19 lecture at 2:00 P.M. at Constitution Hall in Lecompton is "Perry Fuller:  The Road from Poverty to Riches, Influence and Political Power" given by Deborah Baker, executive director, Franklin County History Society.
 
Shannon Keith, a freshman at Ellsworth Junior Senior High School, was Student of the Week.  She is active in sports, music, flag corp, art and science.  She was on the high honor roll.

Hoop and Twila Higgins motored to Lyons on Friday to join Doug and Mary Higgins for a weekend in Overland Park and Blue Springs, Missouri.  On Saturday Twila along with Nancy Wiebe, Mary and Danielle Higgins attended a Baby Shower for Carter Higgins.  All met at Ryan Wiebe's for an evening meal.  An added complete suprise was that Ryan and Jeremy (grandsons) took Grandpa Hoop to the K. U. basketball game in Lawrence.  They arranged for a tour of Allen Field House, Hall of Fame and sat with players for the Pre-game Shoot-Out.  Hoop and Twila returned home on Sunday after seeing Carter in the Prenatal ICU for the first time.  Carter Allen Higgins was born December 1, 2011.  He weighed one pound four ounces and was 12-l/2 inches long.  He now weighs four pounds and fifteen ounces.
 
Carolyn and Dave Davenport attended the Hutchinson High School basketball game on Friday night to watch Tanner Higgins play.
