LOOKING BACK: MHS High School News 1949 - Three cheers for the McCracken Mustangs: Five wins and one loss for the 1949 season is an enviable record for any team, but an exceptional one for a school in its second year of six man football. McCracken scored 204 points against her opponents 130. We feel Coach Rues deserves much credit for the teams marked improvement over last year. The boys have been co-operative and the spectators enthusiastic. Winning teams are built around a capable coach, an enthusiastic group of boys, town support and a keen school spirit. Lets make the Mustangs known the country over and then some!!! Those boys out for football this year are Wayne Irvin, Wendell Hinman, Bob Fear, Bill Spomer, Floyd Thompson, Tony Schlitter, Richard Gordon, Richard Buxton, Jack Wilson, Dean Gilbert, Dight House, Calvin Wilson, Pete Rixon, Charles Jacobs, Harold Juvenal, Edward Cain, Ray Ohlemeier and Patrick Keener.

The following write-up is taken from J. R. Lovitts Real Estate Rustler: Rush County is situated a few miles west of the exact center of the State. The county contains 1,095,000 acres, a population of 8,000. This land is the best, being composed of dark loam, the surface is rolling while numerous creeks run through the county, along the banks of which are fringed with trees of many kinds, namely Cottonwood, Elm, Boxelder, Ash and Oak. Rush County joins Barton, the banner wheat county in the state. Eight years ago you could buy land in western Barton from ten to twelve dollars per acre. That same land is selling today at from forty to fifty dollars.
