Two of our Canadian friends, Elizabeth Bohnke and her sister Debbie were going to visit with Allan Darkes in Hinton this weekend. They are all related to the Metz family.

Our congratulations to Sherri Hart who will become principal of McCandless Elementary School in Hutchinson next year. Sherri has been the assistant principal at Hutchinson High School. This is her first teaching in an elementary school.

Shana McGaughey Marez, 44, died January 30, 2013. She was born November 10, 1968, daughter of Charles Frank and Joyce Lea Schaplowsky McGaughey. She married Robert D. Marez in 1991. Her husband along with her mother; daughters Taylor and Jordan Marez survive her. Funeral was Monday in St. Dominic Church, Garden City.

Jack Edwards celebrated his 81st birthday at the McCracken Hotel Wednesday evening.

MHS picked up their 7th win of the season by defeating Alexander 66-35. Players Higgins, Baus, Irvin, Herdman, Richolson, Peters, North, Gaschler, Harp.

Russell Peters was a Saturday supper guest of Kent Bible.

Mr. and Mrs. Pat McCormick moved from their farm into their house in McCracken.

Mrs. Mary Start Gerstner, Hays, died of a heart attack at the Hadley hospital where she was employed as a nurse.

Paul Andree, 63, Ness City school administrator died February 11 at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.

Mrs. Carrie North was surprised at her home Sunday for her birthday.

Mr. and Mrs. Guy Conner and Joe are living and teaching in Dighton.

O.J. Weir, 79, a former principal of the McCracken schools, died February 14 at his home.

A daughter, Norma Louise, was born February 15 to Mr. and Mrs. Norman Brack.

Over 2,500 music students from all over western Kansas attended the 14th annual grade music festival in LaCrosse. Students that placed were Floyd Norlin, Carolyn Stremel, Debra Rogers, Janis Halbleib, Gloria Baus, Debra Schuckman, Penny Irvin, Dixie Walker, Terry & Valerie Zimmerman, Karen Casey, Elaine & William Wetzel, Elsie Dugan, Rita Werth, Ann and Bill North.

Marriage license was issued to LeRoy Oliver Herdman and Marilyn Joyce Higgins.

Mrs. Jane McCormick McKittrick, 86, died February 24.

Jimmie Moran and Gerald Barnes are students at St. Mary of the Plains in Dodge City.

Marty and Tina Mills were last Tuesday evening guests of Addie Mills for a birthday cake in honor of Marty's birthday. On Sunday they went to Brookville to help celebrate Tina's mom, Della Miller's birthday.

Kansas Secretary of State, Kris Kobach will present a Kansas Day program "Kansas' First Territorial Elections and the Lecompton Constitution", on Sunday, February 10 at 2:00 p.m. at Historic Lecompton.
