The City of McCracken passed along a donation from Ben Thompson to the McCracken Historical Museum.
Shirley and Carolyn were surprised this week by the receipt of Persian rugs in blue and gold. They were a gift from Shannon McKinney.
The Ellis Railroaders Girls Basketball Team won the Mid-Continent League Tournament at Gross Memorial Coliseum at Fort Hays State University on Saturday evening. It was the first time the Ellis girls have won the tournament. Whitney Taylor, daughter of Rod and Bernadette Taylor, is a freshman starter for the team. Christina Unrein, daughter of James and Diana Unrein, is a cheerleader. The Ellis cheerleaders did a dance routine during half time of the boys championship game. Smoky Hills Public Television will broadcast the girls' championship game on Sunday, January 29 at 5:00 p.m. on KOOD.
The Plainville boys team won 4th place. Senior Justin Casey, son of Jerry and Karen Casey, is a member of the Cardinal team.
Mike Keith received his Masters Degree in special education at the end of the fall semester.
Roger Legleiter, Gary Barnes and Coleen Kern attended the KPRA Rodeo banquet this weekend in Garden City. Janice McCloy was also in attendance.
The McCracken Rodeo was awarded the Committee of the Year Award. Jack Wilson received the Supporter of the Year Award.
Tanner Higgins, a member of the MAYB Hutch Warriors 5th grade basketball team, took first in the tournament in Lindsborg this weekend.
The 2nd annual Hoisington High School boys and girls basketball invitational tournament was held this past week in Hoisington. Those teams invited were Ellinwood, Hoisington, LaCrosse, Otis-Bison, Quivira Heights and Russell. Taking first place honors for the boys was Otis-Bison with a one point win over Hoisington. First place honors for the girls went to Quivira Heights who defeated Ellinwood by a score of 50-49. Hoisington girls placed 3rd. Joey Garcia, LaCrosse, Cameron Horesky and Zac Stetler, Hoisington and Tyler Axman, Otis-Bison were chosen for the boys all tournament team; Danae Yarmer, Otis-Bison and Kyra Horesky, Hoisington were chosen for the girls all tournament team.
Mike and Jerilyn Stull attended the Denver-Pittsburg football playoff game in Denver on Sunday.
For those of you who have asked, Cameron and Kyra Horesky are the son and daughter of Tammy and Lonnie Irvin, grandchildren of Vic and Shirley Higgins.
Lexie Barnes, a first grader in the Greensburg Grade School, was awarded 1st place in a poster contest for soil conservation. She is the daughter of Bruce and Carol Barnes and granddaughter of Gerald and Signe Barnes.

Professor Barnard is making preparations to conduct his Normal at Hampton this year on a larger scale than ever. He added a new upright piano to his accoutrement the other day.

The McCracken Grade School girls won over the Alexander girls 15-4 on Friday. Players for McCracken: Peer, Dougherty, Martin, McKittrick, McGaughey, Carpenter, Kueffer, Johnson, Irvin and Birdsong. Alexander: G. Yost, Kueffer, Brack, Schadel, M. Yost, Durand, Schlegel, Lyda, Stevens and Bott.
Bargain Night!! Playing at the McCracken Garden Theatre Thursday night is "Scandals of 1935". Adults: 15 cents, Kids: 20 cents.
William Foster's 1929 Ford coach was stolen Wednesday evening from in front of the Grade School Auditorium. There were also some blankets and a flashlight taken from Wilbur Hawley's car. So far nothing has been found.
Chevrolet Motor Company announced that its total US sales of cars and trucks in 1935 were 865,842.

Vic Whitis of Brownell purchased the Nowles Confectionery last week and took charge Thursday. The Nowles family has moved back in to the Twiselton properrty.
Joseph Derr arrived here Friday from Ft. Lewis, Wash., where he had received his discharge, visiting his aunt, Mrs. J. P. Moran and family, before going to his home in Philadelphia, Pa. Mrs. Moran will accompany him to Kansas City where they will visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Flynn.

Gerald Anderson and Alvin Janke attended the Missouri Pacific hearing on discontinuance of train service at Hoisington on Friday evening.
A fire destroyed a tool shed and granary and all the contents at the home of Eugene McGaughey southwest of town Friday afternoon.
Mrs. Francis Zeller left Saturday with her father, Herb Davenport, for Tombstone, Ariz. where he will spend several weeks.

Lorrie Morgan is a starter on the Sterling College basketball team.
Mary Theresa Casey and Gloria Bland of McCracken and Sharolyn K. Legleiter, Alexander completed degree requirements at the close of the fall semester at Fort Hays Kansas State College.
Dr. Terry L. Herdman has been selected for the 13th edition of American Men and Women of Science.
Elizabeth Jane Gaschler Riney has graduated summa cum laude from the University of Arizona with a Bachelors degree in chemistry.
January 1986
Funeral services were held for Mary (Pfaff) Mask on Sunday. Burial was in the LaCrosse Cemetery. Mary died of injuries sustained in a car accident west of Antonino. She was born November 24, 1947 at McCracken to John and Silvina (Hammerschmidt) Pfaff.
Senior Greta Dome was on the All "A" Honor Roll at LaCrosse; Scott Littler was on the "A-B" Honor Roll, Sean Peters and Dale West were on the "B" Honor Roll.
January 1996
Alvina and Bill Cole took Augie and Jean Schutte to Colorado Springs to board a plane for Tempe, Ariz. to visit with their son, Jerry and Ann Schutte. They stayed in Tempe for two weeks.
Marjorie Elias and Jeannie Elias were overnight guests of Norma Jean Heiser on Wednesday evening due to the blizzard. Red Fear spent two hours traveling from Otis to LaCrosse in the storm -- he spent the night at the Motel.
