On Saturday January 10, Dennis and Jeannie Elias attended the Wrestling Tournament at Salina High School South to watch Tanner Elias, son of Travis and Tina Elias of Colby participate in the 125 lb. weight division. He was involved in six matches. Tanner was second in the finals against a young man from 4A who was ranked 2nd in the State. Colby got first in overall points. Tanner is a Junior at Colby High School which is a 2A school. Congratulations Tanner.
On Saturday, January 10, a reception, mass and dinner were held to honor Gene Wendling on his 95th birthday at Halstead. Attending were Michele, Jason, John and Marge Moran, Clark, Nicole and Madison Kirk. Gene is the husband of the late, Marci Moran Wendling.
Bonnie Rebel has given the following items to the Jail/Museum: letters sent from Selkirk, Kansas, to Alexander in 1889 and 1900 from Sarah and Minnie Elliott to their Ma and Pa and Sisters; A card to Harry Lyda The Junior Class requests the presence of Harry Lyda on Saturday evening, the Seventh, Nineteen hundred and Twenty one, at a banquet given in honor of the Senior Class, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jones; a document made to Ora Davis for $90.00 signed by Charles Elliott and Sarah Elliott to pay Mr. Davis on December l st, 1892; aerial maps of farm ground and creek; a quieting of title from W. B. Russsell, Lawyer, LaCrosse, Kansas May 16, 1904; LaCrosse Republican, October 24,1940, Draft Numbers; The LaCrosse Republican also had a McCracken column written by Charlotte Norlin; a LaCrosse Republican for September 11, 1930 sent to Bert Lyda; a Senior Banquet program for May 7, 1921; Rush County Tax Levy for 1906; A marker purchase from W. J. Sams and Sons for Charles and Sarah Elliott at Alexander for $75.00. Bonnie got these in a box at an auction.
Lynn Kochenower has a new great-niece, Brin Beckwith Hobbs, born Thanksgiving week . Her parents are Justin and Kaleigh Hobbs of Paola.
Zelda Brack will be 98 on January 17. Please send her birthday greetings in care of Locust Grove.
The St. Mary's Faith Sharing group met for the start of the Spring Semester on Monday morning. Those attending were new member, DeAnna Bergquist, returning members, Twila Higgins, Jean Schutte, Carolyn Thompson, Phyllis Conrad, Shirley Higgins and Jeanette McCormick. Two members do their lessons at home, Arline Rues and Joann Micheli.
Item from Volume 11 McCracken History: Audice Thompson spoke about his father, E. J. Thompson: During the winter of 1903 and 1904, Ralph and I would ride to school at Waring with Dad and he would drive on down to the Swanze Place where he would cut and load seven or eight stone posts and haul them home. This was a full day of work. Dad must have set 500 stone posts around the three home three quarters.
Bonnie Grumbein Bruns wrote about the Grumbein farm north of town. It was known as the Golden L & G. It had a big barn with cement floors, a washhouse and electric light, white rock corral all around it. The house was all modern, furnace, electric lights and an inside bathroom. The yard was all fenced in. There were two big chicken houses.
Many of our friends are in need of Gluten-Free items. The Girl Scouts have introduced a new cookie to meet that need called Trios. It is made with real peanut butter, chocolate chips and gluten-free whole grain oats.
A soup and dessert supper will be held at the American Legion in McCracken, January 17 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a free will offering. The funds received will help with the heating bills at the Legion. A section will be for those who wish to play cards and there will be one for those who wish to watch ball games. Everyone is welcome.
Jacob Townsend graduated from Correction Officer training in Norton on the 30th of December. Dan, Kim, and Megan Townsend attended the ceremony. Jacob gave the graduation speech. Megan Townsend returned to Boston on January 4th. She spent the winter break with family and friends in Abilene and McCracken.

Brianna Casey, a senior at Plainville High School was named to the 2014-2015 all-academic team. The presentation will take place in Wakeeney during half time of the MCL boys basketball championship. She is the daughter of Jerry and Karen Casey.
Tanner Elias placed 2nd in the Salina High School South 21st Annual Cougar Wrestling Invitational on Saturday. Colby High placed first out of eleven teams. Attending were Travis and Tina Elias, Katie Elias, Dennis and Jeannie Elias and Dave and Carolyn Davenport.

Bison downs McCracken 55-38 to repeat as REN champs. Rich Bieber was high for Bison, North for McCracken. Other players for McCracken: Harp, Peters, Rein, Brown & Higgins. For Bison: Dalton, Erb, Rothe, Urban, Ross, Reha & Degenhaardt.
Margaret Hair entertained at a luncheon and pinochle party Wednesday for Ruth Snodgrass, Dove Walker, Nell Wyman, Ruby Adkinson, Mrs. Ed Pierce Brownell; Elizabeth Pavlu all of Ness City and Ruth Howell.
Gerald Walker spent a few days at Yorkville, IL, attending to business matters.
Emmett & Marjorie Sloan and family spent Friday and Saturday at the home of Betty & Reynard Dykes at Pratt.
Harry Sultzer attended the inauguration at Washington, D.C. last week.
Al Rues is superintendent of the Alexander High School.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Harold Herdman on the birth of a son born January 28, 1965 at the Hadley Memorial Hospital in Hays.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Schulz, Independence, MO., on the birth of a daughter, Judy Ann, born January 24. Mr. and Mrs. Freddie Sschuckman are materenal grandparents.
Robin & Lisa Schuckman spent the weekend in Bison with Mr. and Mrs. D.C. McChristian.
Those present at the McCracken neighborhood meeting Monday night were Carrie Davis, Carolyn Thompson, Pat Derr, Gladys Hinman, Lorraine Norlin, Frances Janke, Lorraine Ryan, and Mary Ann Moran. Carrie Davis was appointed chairman; Lorraine Norlin publicity chairman. Debra Rogers will receive her Senior Program Aide Bar at the next Brownie meeting in February.
